One of the most desired tools for interventional radiologists is the ability to perform an accurate real-time biopsy under CT/MRI. This task is, however, technically limited and difficult to perform. In addition to imaging device limitations and expensive costs of operation, patients must not move during the procedure because of registration mismatch between taken images and actual position. They offer a real time navigation handle to which various interventional tools may be attached as desired. The system provides the exact position and inclination of the tool's tip. The operating interventional radiologist is thus able to follow the procedure in real-time on a dedicated screen, plan ahead and inspect the procedure displayed on MRI/CT screen in a so-called augmented reality. The system allows accurate mapping of patient's body in the procedure room, and relate it with respect to patient's position in scanner. This allows patient to be freely and easily moved from scanner to operation table. It reduces scan significantly and also frees scanner. Accuracy of position is to within less than 3 mm at an update rate of less than 0.6 seconds.
