MedStartr Venture Partner / Community Leader (MVP) Program

The MedStartr Venture Partner is a partner in the MedStartr family of funds who helps drive the growth of our portfolio companies, and a Community Leader who builds a community of healthcare innovation enthusiasts.

Summary

The MedStartr Venture Partner is a partner in the MedStartr family of funds that helps drive growth of our portfolio companies in various ways.

As a Community Leader, an MVP helps build and manage a community of healthcare innovation enthusiasts who connect and create the future of healthcare. The global network of MVPs operates in a hub and spoke model, connecting leaders around the world to help drive innovation everywhere. MVPs also help source, select, accelerate and coordinate early-stage companies in their areas of interest and region. MedStartr and our MVPs do this by creating events, partnerships and businesses that help solve problems locally and globally in healthcare.

Revenue is generated by brokering deals, accelerating early-stage companies and exits from portfolio companies, as well as running programs, consulting and other benefits of being the center of your region's healthcare innovation community. Ideally, MedStartr will fund a facility to become a healthcare innovation hub in the community for events, co-working, classes and more.

The Community Leader Role

  • Build and manage a community of people interested in helping drive innovation in the region, from hospitals, startups, growth stage companies, payors, pharma and devices to all aspects of the healthcare system.
  • Run local and livestreamed events monthly, at least four times a year.
  • Recommend local companies to the fund.
  • Accelerate local companies.
  • Develop and implement programs and events for the community.
  • Name the community "MedStartr (city)".

What MVPs Do

MVPs are the leaders of our programs, maintaining a close relationship with the teams under their purview. They make sure the startups are healthy and growing, bringing in support from the wider network as needed. Specifically:

  • Strategy: provide strategic advice and support to early-stage startups generally, and hold weekly calls with the companies you manage as an MVP, including acceleration service activities for up to three years per team.
  • Connection: connect startups with investors, mentors and other resources, with preference for MedStartr portfolio companies.
  • Business development: identify and enable business development opportunities within the community and partner with MedStartr on developing them for shared revenue.
  • Promote: promote the MedStartr network, funds and accelerator, and the role of MVPs.
  • Represent: represent the MedStartr funds and community at industry events.
  • Warm leads: use warm leads from MedStartr.ai and the MedStartr community for business development and revenue sharing opportunities.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field, business, economics or finance. Advanced degrees are helpful as well.
  • 5+ years of experience in the healthcare innovation industry.
  • A proven track record of building and managing communities.
  • A strong understanding of the startup ecosystem.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for helping startups succeed, to help create a better healthcare experience for all.

What MVPs Get

  • Acceleration revenue for each company you manage as an MVP.
  • A share of the business development revenue you drive.
  • A salary that depends on your commitment, time and activities.
  • Access to MedStartr benefits.
  • Community development training and potential event sponsorship.
  • The opportunity to work with a team of experienced venture capitalists and community builders in one of the world's largest healthcare innovation ecosystems.
  • A chance to make a significant impact on the healthcare system.

MedStartr Labs

MedStartr Labs are centers of innovation in healthcare in cities with strong MedStartr communities. With co-working, events, classes, offices and even live/work spaces for rent, a MedStartr Lab is the perfect landing pad for visiting experts and healthcare leaders to engage with the community that cares.

Co-Investment and Starting Your Own Fund

In addition to becoming an MVP, we provide training on starting your own fund and will assist in doing so. The end goal is an aligned investor network that prioritizes innovation and impact in addition to return on investment. You can either earn a portion of the carried interest and admin fee on funding brought into the MedStartr family of funds, or start your own fund to co-invest in MedStartr portfolio companies and others.
