The Geek to Freak to Hero Path
We love helping amazing people along what we call the Geek to Freak to Hero path. Alex Fair, MedStartr's founder, first presented it on stage at Stanford Medicine X. It describes how most healthcare innovators grow:
- Geek. It starts with deep, specialist knowledge: a surgeon, a data scientist, a highly informed patient.
- Freak. They spot a flaw, or an opening, in how healthcare works and become obsessed with fixing it. To the establishment, that relentless push against the status quo looks eccentric, even annoying. Many leave their day jobs at this stage to chase the vision.
- Hero. They fund, launch and scale their solution, solve real problems for patients and providers, and go from passionate outlier to the person who changed the system.
