Reliability

On 21 of 22 days the server-error rate stayed under 0.06%, and on 9 days it was zero; 97.2% of all server errors came from one crawler incident on Oct 6.

  • The incident. From about 13:00 UTC on Oct 6, an event day, automated crawlers on rotating addresses walked every person page and company share image. Database queries slowed to 10–19 seconds and pages failed to load (#289, #280).

  • The fix, live within hours in two layers (18:13 and 20:56 UTC on Oct 6). First, SEO-audit crawlers are refused before the app does any work. Second, share images are drawn one at a time and throttled per address and per network, and anonymous page walks are rate-limited. Signed-in members are never throttled. After the first fix the errors stopped.

  • What the Oct 6 count includes. Its 3,814 errors are 444 HTTP 500, 1,638 HTTP 502 and 1,735 HTTP 503. Some of the 503s are the new guard deliberately telling crawlers to come back later, so the true failure count is somewhat lower; the data does not separate them.

  • Not counted as errors. 404 (page not found), 429 (rate limit working as designed) and 499 (the visitor left before the page finished) are not server faults and are excluded.

What shipped

Each line is one delivered feature or fix, listed on the day its first change went live (191 in all; a few are the first step of a larger item).

Fri Sep 25 — 17

  • Vendors and service providers stay out of matches and off the top of listings and search (#119)

  • Campaign emails greet the reader once, by first name, even when the body starts with its own 'Hi' (#156)

  • Campaign emails can carry links, formatting and images, with the editor the site uses elsewhere (#157)

  • Campaign composer links to the list of fields you can insert, and gains last name, full name and company (#158)

  • Links in direct messages are clickable from admins, mentors and connections; medstartr.ai links from anyone (#159)

  • Pressing 'This is Me' on an old profile shows the enter-your-code page instead of doing nothing (#160)

  • Admins can see, add, remove and change the primary email on a member's account, with a record of every change (#161)

  • Home page badge says Beta, with Alex's new welcome note and the real Syggy icon (#162)

  • Hard bounces and spam complaints take an address off future campaign sends (#163)

  • Sharing a member's profile shows a card with their name and details, even when they have no photo (#164)

  • Event sponsor cards open the sponsor's company page, and organizers can attach a sponsor to its company (#165)

  • Pause a campaign while it is sending, edit it, then resume for the remaining recipients (#166)

  • Buying a ticket: LinkedIn optional, a Sign in or sign up prompt first, and the ticket attached to the buyer's account (#167)

  • A member's profile shows the events they attended as cards (#168)

  • Members who have never signed in get 'Couldn't find your account' — send them to Sign up with their email instead (#169)

  • Onboarding: 'List or Claim My Company' is the first choice, with Alex's wording (#170)

  • After sign-up, show possible existing profiles ('Is one of these you?') so members whose email changed can claim their profile (#171)

Sat Sep 26 — 10

  • A saved search can send me new companies as they match (#64)

  • Buyers can leave a short video review of a product, recorded on the site (#96)

  • Remove spam users and non-healthcare companies together, and block whoever created them (#117)

  • Every shared MedStartr link shows a picture and a description of that page, by default (#133)

  • Sign in: an email we don't know says so and offers 'try again', 'search by name' or 'sign up' instead of silently going to Sign up (#172)

  • Sign in: 'I don't have access to that email anymore' sends a request to admins (#173)

  • Blog: admins can write and publish posts, and every post shows a picture (#174)

  • Profile edit: 'How I work with Healthcare Innovators' with a call to action, and Apply to be a Mentor / List or claim my company at the bottom (#175)

  • Continue on the email sign-in step does nothing for members with no login yet (#176)

  • Admins can set up services and products on any person's profile (#177)

Sun Sep 27 — 3

  • Returning members who claim their profile get an emailed code and a 'Welcome Back' screen, not 'Create your account' (#178)

  • Unpublish the Launchathon: off the menu, listings and landing page, with its links sent to upcoming events (#180)

  • The home page has a banner linking to upcoming events (#181)

Mon Sep 28 — 5

  • A team invite to a company created on the site leads to a page with no way to join (#185)

  • Company owners can't upload a pitch deck or logo (forbidden) (#186)

  • Images and Videos editing page: add a header and instructions (#188)

  • Syggy reads her replies out loud (female voice) (#189)

Tue Sep 29 — 11

  • Syggy pops up to help when someone sets up a company or finishes their profile (#191)

  • A + button on the on-site Syggy chat so she can take files, like a pitch deck (#193)

  • Pasting the emailed 6-digit code fails when the copy carries a space; typing it works (#194)

  • Signup pickers show only top-level interests; sub-levels only on 'Drill down further', and we count the clicks (#195)

  • Product and service cards show at most 3 tags and are all the same height (#196)

  • Event times shift when saved: the form ignores the event's time zone (#197)

  • The logo always opens the home page; signing in still lands on the For You feed (#198)

  • Event pages: the keynote comes first, with a bigger photo than the hosts (#199)

  • Create New Event: a welcoming sign-in message for visitors who aren't signed in or allowed yet (#203)

  • Emails sign Syggy with a crocodile emoji; use her real icon (#205)

  • A 'Meet Syggy' page at /syggy for syggy.ai to point to (#206)

Wed Sep 30 — 9

  • Syggy should not correct people who call her Ziggy (#190)

  • Syggy chats with signed-out visitors as a friendly site guide, and invites them to join for discovery (#208)

  • Companies and people can add documents (PDFs) to their profile, not just pictures and videos (#209)

  • Syggy greets people by name and asks how she can help, instead of jumping to company setup (#210)

  • Signed-out Syggy: welcome bubble stays longer, a microphone button, and a more natural, faster voice (#211)

  • Point the Galen website email scan at a priority group: smaller companies, clinical AI and New York first (#212)

  • Claim invitation email: Alex's new wording, edit it on the invitations page, and choose recipients by country, state, city and tags (#213)

  • Community page: events, organizers and sharing above the companies; share buttons as icons (#214)

Thu Oct 1 — 3

  • Showcase: 'Meet The Teams' button on the event page, and admins can hide or show a team on the showcase (#232)

  • Showcase management: mark teams as Finalist (they take the stage), and stop a company applying twice to the same event (#234)

  • Showcase: a team's pitch deck is its card picture, with slides you can page through on the card (#235)

  • Sign in page offers the social sign-in buttons (Google, LinkedIn, X) as well as email (#248)

  • Admin panel: tools organised into categories, nothing missing, and every registrant for an event in one sortable list (#249)

  • Stop emailing addresses that bounce or mark us as spam (Resend bounce and complaint webhook, suppression list) (#253)

  • Communities: 'Build your own' first in the menu then NYC; add crowd judging and VC/accelerator training to the leader features; NYC as the live example (#254)

  • Event registrants page: the message buttons and links do nothing (#259)

  • Event admin: add community members to an event as attendees, pitching startups and other roles (#260)

  • Home page: 'These just in' first among the companies; store at the bottom until it has a full row (#262)

  • Event showcase: livestream player above the teams so people can watch and judge on one page (needed 10/6) (#270)

  • Every application (volunteer, mentor, apply to attend) requires a mobile number, like pitch applications (#271)

Tue Oct 6 — 17

  • MedMo News, part 2: an agent that finds outside news about listed and contest companies, approved by an admin before it shows (#267)

  • Pitch applications close 3 days before the event by default, with the number of days set on the event form (#273)

  • Company Leadership: bigger headshots; headshot and name link to the person's profile (#275)

  • AI search visibility: sitemap, robots.txt for AI crawlers, llms.txt, structured data on every public page type, and AI referral counts (#276)

  • Sharing previews: give every public page type its own share image (challenges, communities, buildathon, MedMo, shop, mentors, how-we-help, index pages) (#278)

  • How We Help: Book a time at the bottom; Care Pros page (search, card actions, clinical areas, mentor section) and Investors page (new header, how to get involved, contests, leaderboard, investor mentors) (#279)

  • Production: a crawler walking every company's share image overloads the database and fails health checks (throttle, pre-draw, Cloudflare cache) (#280)

  • Event night: 'check your spam' on the code screen, slower ticker on phones, showcase text 'Help us decide who wins and watch the livestream' (#281)

  • New members are pulled into the signup wizard on every page (event voting included) and never returned to where they started (#282)

  • Event showcase: mentors' and judges' votes count 3x everyone else's (needed 10/6) (#284)

All figures come from the project's merge request history, Render's deploy log and Render's request metrics, read on 2026-10-16 at 19:55 UTC (3:55 pm ET). Days are UTC calendar days; requests and errors are summed from Render's hourly metrics. An earlier version of this post placed each day's requests and errors one day late (Render labels daily totals by the end of the day); this version corrects that.

  • Changes merged: the project's merge request history, state merged, merged on or after 2026-09-25. That is 204 merge requests.

  • Live deploys: Render's deploy log for the production web service (www.medstartr.ai), counting deploys that reached status live.

  • Requests and server errors: Render's request metrics for the same service, grouped by status code. Server errors are 5xx responses. The error rate is server errors divided by all requests.

  • Features: the items under "What shipped" come from the same merge request history.
