Writing from Medellin, Colombia today, so I'll be brief (yeah, I know you've heard that one before :/) So our first World Tour International event is on Thursday and thanks to our amazing Partners at EAFIT University, HealthTech Colombia and HITEKS, you can attend for free, even get on stage, watch the live stream on MedStartr.tv, and even apply to get on stage.
Speaking of which we have not one but TWO deadlines to apply your amazing startup to. One here for Thursday and one in Milan, Italy for October from our friends at Frontiers.Health and thanks to our MedStartr IFF (Innovator friend Forever) Aline Noizet. Read more below.
One last thing, as our MedStartr Venture Fund II is closing on our first exits and our teams keep growing exponentially in value, we are closing Fund II this month and moving on III to scale the model that enables the crowd (that's you) to decide what ideas we fund and accelerate. In our 35th city and 2nd country, MedStartr is finally opening our much delayed World Tour (thanks COVID.) We can't say how inspired we are to learn about the people, innovations and healthcare system here. Did you know that their average care costs per capita are 1/12 of those in the states? They did this with many preventive care measures and Gabriel Mesa and I spent yesterday discussing the Sextuple aim (Quadruple aim plus Equity, Transparency and SDoH - yes, I know that's 7 but who doesn't like saying sextuple?) He was the CEO of SURA and DROVE DOWN COSTS by focusing on preventive care. Once the company was doing great he quit at the top and not long after was asked to start a medical school at EAFIT but he said he needs to do it his way, focused on taking care of the whole patient and embracing innovation. It is SOOOO inspiring to meet like-minded people here like him. When we arrived in Colombia the other day we were a little anxious. We literally knew no one here two months ago but now we found our people and all is amazing. Dr. Mesa will be joining a cast of amazing panelists and judges in the pitch contest. As usual, we will be selecting a few teams for our MedStartr Accelerator and investment. Winners will be entered into the MedStartr Due Diligence process and have a chance to receive up to $500,000 in funding, acceleration, and partner deals if approved.
Each company will have 3 minutes to pitch their idea followed by 4 minutes of questions from the amazing industry expert judges. The live and online audiences of hundreds of healthcare leaders will be able to judge, advise, and contact startups on stage in person or if watching online on MedStartr.tv.
