AdOM is developing the Tear Film Imager (TFI) for diagnosing dry eye syndrome. Its non-contact technology is designed to quantify measurement of the tear film inner layers, enabling improved diagnosis of dry eye disease within minutes using a resolution of 1 nanometer (1/1,000 micrometer) where the entire film is only 5 micrometers thick and even thinner for patients with dry eye. The hyperspectral technology implemented within the TFI is based on three pillars: spectral imaging, which provides an accurate, nanometer-resolution measurement of the tear film inner layers over time; full-field imaging, which provides quantification of the tissue's 3D structure; and algorithms to resolve the anatomy. AdOM's TFI platform is based on proprietary light-band shaping of a halogen lamp source within a meticulously designed optical system. The image of the tear film provided by the camera is obtained by using a full-field acquisition unit and then analyzed using three algorithmic stages: signal processing, image processing, and modeling.
