Check-Cap is a clinical-stage medical diagnostics company leading the development of an ingestible imaging capsule that utilizes low-dose X-rays for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. The Check-Cap device requires no bowel preparation or invasive procedures and is expected to detect clinically significant polyps within the same range of accuracy as a standard colonoscopy. Check-Cap's ultra-low-dose X-ray radar device is being designed to create reconstructed 2D and 3D images of the colon. No prior bowel cleansing is needed because its X-rays create 360 degree angular scans capable of seeing through intestinal content. The exposure to radiation is minimal, and equivalent to a standard chest X-ray. The capsule transmits data to a receiving device attached to the patient's back. The information is stored for a physician's analysis; if the 3D images reveal polyps, a therapeutic colonoscopy can be prescribed as needed. In January 2018, Check-Cap received CE mark approval for its C-Scan system. In September 2018, the company announced that it had received approval from the Israeli Ministry of Health's Medical Device Division (AMAR) to initiate commercial sales of the C-Scan system in Israel.
